Businessman succumbs, wife arrested

Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) A businessman, who was shot at by his wife at here yesterday, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital this morning, even as police arrested his wife.

Police sources said the businessman, who sustained bullet wounds on his head and shoulder, succumbed due to extensive bleeding.

The 40-year-old businessman, N Manickchand, was found in a pool of blood in his house in the morning. A police team had recovered an unlicensed pistol from his house.

Meanwhile, police arrested his wife Prameela Kumari on charges of killing her husband.

As Prameela and Manikchand's brother Tarachand blamed each other for the incident, police questioned them, their family members and the two children of the deceased.

During questioning, Manikchand's six-year-old daughter Ani spilled the beans, leading to Prameela's arrest. After repeated questioning Prameela confessed to have shot her husband, unable to bear his torture.

She said Manikchand used to return home in an inebriated condition and pick up a quarrel with her. Several times, she even went to Rajasthan to live with her parents.
