Bandh passes off peacefully in north Cachar hills
Guwahati, Oct 23 (UNI) The 12-hour bandh since this morning crippled life in the north Cachar hills in the district.
The bandh, called by various organisations, however, passed off peacefully.
The Autonomous State Demand Committee, Dimasa Students' Union, Dimasa Women Society and ASDC Mahila Sangathan called the bandh demanding a CBI inquiry into the recent killing of 11 Railway personnel and staff near Manderdisa by unidentified extremists.
They also demanded restoration of peace and normalcy in the region.
At Haflong, most government and semi-government offices remained closed.
Vehicles were off the roads. Commercial institutions and markets also remained closed. However, railway communication was not disrupted, the police said.
