10 bodies recovered, 40 passengers still missing

Dhaka, Oct 23 (UNI) Rescuers so far recovered 10 bodies while 40 other passengers are still missing, comprising mostly women and children when a motor launch with about 100 passengers sank in the Meghna river in southern Munshiganj district today, about 25 kms from here.

The police said 10 bodies which include three children and six women have been recovered so far. While frantic search continues to trace the missing. The sunken ferry has not been salvaged yet.

The packed ferry sank 30 yards under water after hitting a cargo vessel at about 9:30 am. Some of the passengers had managed to swim ashore.

However a Reuters report said that 15 people had been killed in the incident and 35 are still missing.
