Snowfall in HP, rain in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Oct 22 (UNI) Higher reaches in Himachal Pradesh experienced fresh snowfall last night while lower areas in the hill state along with plains of Punjab and Haryana received rainfall today, bringing a considerable dip in the temperature.

The weather remained cloudy throughout the day with temperatures plummeting below normal at most places in Punjab and Haryana and hilly areas of HP. The weather office has forecast light to moderate rain in the plains with wind blowing at a speed of 45 kmph, while Himachal would experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

High altitude areas in tribal districts of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur and Bharmour and Pangi in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh had another spell of snowfall making people groan under cold wave conditions in the tribal belt.

The 13050-feet high Rohtang Pass, access to Lahaul Spiti district, and majestic Dhauladhar ranges, facing the picturesque Kangra valley, also experienced snowfall and ushered in cold weather conditions in Kullu and Kangra districts.

Heavy rains lashed lower areas of the state, including Sundernagar, Una, Kalpa, Pandoh, Rampur, Suni, Kasol, Naudan, Sujanpur Tira, Guler, Nagrota Surian and Gamroor since last night, declining temperatures considerably.

State capital Shimla and its adjoining areas were also lashed by rains, which dipped the minimum temperature to 9.4 degrees Celsius in the capital town.

The temperature dipped in Punjab and Haryana as a few areas, surrounding Chandigarh, experienced rainfall this morning.

Chandigarh, where the minumum temperature was recorded at 15.2 degrees C, received 7 mm rain while Ambala and a few places in Punjab reported traces of rain.
