Notorious gangster shot dead in TN

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 22 (UNI) A special police team gunned down R Ravi alias 'Muttai' Ravi (30), a notorious gangster, in an encounter early today on the city outskirts.

Briefing the media after visiting the Government Headquarters Hospital where a police inspector and sub-inspector were admitted with cut injuries suffered during the encounter,Inspector General of Police (Central Zone) M S Jaffar Sait said 'Muttai Ravi' gave a slip to the lone constable at the Samayapuram Police Station yesterday where he was brought from the Cuddalore Central Prison in connection with a robbery case.

Five special police teams launched a search operation.

Police intercepted Muttai Ravi during a vehicle check on the Navalpattu Hundred Feet Road.

Muttai tried to escape. When the police tried to catch him, he attacked them with an 'aruval' (sickle) injuring a Police Inspector and a Sub Inspector, under attack the police opened fire. Ravi was declared brought dead by the doctors at the Government Headquarters Hospital.
