Agartala, Oct 22 (UNI) Tripura government has been asked to submit a Detailed Project Report on the Indo-Myanmar Shwe Gas pipeline project before including the project in the state.

According to official sources, Union Industries Minister Jairam Ramesh in a meeting with the North East Industries Ministers in Shillong recently has assured to consider the state government's request to align the gas pipeline through the state.

Mr Ramesh would discuss regarding this with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, sources said.

State Industry Minister Tapan Chakraborty had demanded Mr Ramesh to include the state in the project as it would help transport natural gas explored in the state and accelerate industrialisation process.

Earlier, the route was expected to pass from Myanmar along Kaladan river to Aizwal connecting Silchar in South Asom and then to Tinsukia in upper Asom and Guwahati before meeting the Haldia pipeline at Gaya.

After the state is included in the project, the gas pipeline would connect the state directly from Aizwal before going to Silchar, sources claimed.

The North Eastern Students Organisation had also given a memorandum to the Prime Minister earlier demanding state's inclusion in the project, sources said.
