Indian archers claim 1 gold, 2 silver in World Championship
Merida, Mexico, Oct 22 (UNI) Indian archers claimed one gold and two silver medals in the Olympic round competitions in the 9th Junior and 3rd Cadet World Archery Championship here.
Palton Handsa hit the bull's eye with an aggregate of 336 in the men's Compound Junior section. In the final round, the Indian archer scored 1300 in qualifying round. Later he scored 110, 113, 110, 113 and 113 in first, prequarter, quarter, semi-final and final rounds, respectively. American Telform Paul scored 341 including 112 in the final round to finish second.
Another Indian archer Santosh Tamang got eliminated in quarter-final round.
Pratnitha Vardhineni gave India a silver medal in the Compound Junior Women Olympic round with progressive score of 101, 103, 101, 108, 100. She got silver with a total of 309. In qualifying round, she scored 1269.
Pratima Boro finished fourth with 292. In qualifying round, her total stood at 1286.
Prabha Kandir also performed on the expected lines. The Indian finished second in the Recurve Junior Olympic Round with a total of 312 points. In qualifying round, she got 1230. Her progressive scores were were 104, 107, 106, 103, 108 and 101.
Earlier, India had won one silver and one bronze in the team competitons.
India finished fourth with one gold, three silver and one bronze medals. USA (4-1-3), Korea (2-2-0) and Australia (2-0-0) finished first, second and third, respectively.
