2000 people affected in hail storm

Diphu, Oct 22: About 2,000 people were affected in a major hail storm that lashed the Singhasan hill range in Karbi Anglong ditrict of Asom yesterday.

Many houses were completely of others partially damaged in 20 Kuki-tribal villages, informed the president of the Kuki National Assembly over telephone.

About 2.5 feet of hail deposit was recorded and all standing crops were destroyed in the storm.

Communication lines had been snapped and relief has not reached the areas.

An exact estimation of damages and people affected was yet to be made as the villages are scattered over a wide range of area.

Two farmers were also killed by lightning while working in the field at Kathaguri village under Manja outpost of the district yesterday.
