2 more succumb to dengue; toll rises to 120
New Delhi, Oct 21: The dengue toll has risen to 120 with two more deaths reported today, a Union Health Ministry status report said.
The number of cases also went up from 6910 to 6957, with Delhi alone accounting for about 2000 cases.
A total number of 35 deaths have been reported from Delhi and the National Capital Region. This figure is as reported till 1230 hrs.
However, an official report of the Delhi Government put the number of deaths so far at 41.
Apart from Delhi, maximum number of cases have been reported from Rajasthan(888), followed by Kerala(834), West Bengal(627), Maharashtra(582), Uttar Pradesh(513), Gujarat(456), Punjab(413), Tamil Nadu(307), Haryana(232), Karnataka(92) and Andhra Pradesh(76).
However, no deaths caused by chikungunya have been reported. The total number of confirmed cases of the desease is 1665 so far.
In Delhi and the NCR region, 28 cases of the disease have been registered so far. The maximum number have been reported from Maharashtra(679) followed by Karnataka(294) and Andhra Pradesh(248), Gujarat(170), Tamil Nadu(111), Madhya Pradesh(62), Kerala(38), Rajasthan(24) and Pondicherry(9).
In the capital, 59 more dengue cases were admitted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences today.
With this, total number of confirmed cases in the Capital has risen to 187 with another 120 kept under observation.
Despite 57 people being discharged in the last 24 hours from the AIIMS, the total number of those affected by the viral disease was close to touching the 2,000 figure.
However, no deaths were reported today and dengue toll in the Capital so far remains at 41.
More than 22,000 patients have been screened at the AIIMS emergency OPD since October three and the hospital is conducting more than 2,000 platelet-counting tests daily with the help of four separator machines functioning round-the-clock.
