Sanjha Chulha for primitive tribals

Bhopal, Oct 21: For the malnourished primitive Saharia tribals of Madhya Pradesh, Sanjha Chulha has come as a boon to ensure food security.

The common kitchen scheme has been initially launched in 29 villages spread over three blocks in Morena district.

Encouraged by its success, there is a move to replicate it in other predominantly tribal districts of the state, official sources said yesterday.

Under the scheme, those receiving social security and old age pension , besides those ineligible for both pensions due to technical reasons were included.

The selected beneficiaries, who were provided a card to record availing of the benefits, are ensured at least one meal a day with the menu similar to students covered under mid-day meal. Even the mid-day meal kitchen is used for Sanjha Chulha in villages with BPL self-help groups cooking the food. However, separate utensils are provided to beneficiaries.

Separate allotment is also made for pulses, salt, oil, spices and fuel with funds mobilised from gram panchayats, Red Cross and public contribution, the sources added.
