Meghalaya police observe Martyrs' Day
Shillong, Oct 21 (UNI) The Meghalaya police today remembered its comrades who laid down their lives for the interest of the nation, on the occation of police martyrs' day.
Speaking at a function, State Director General of Police William Richmond Marbaniang recalled the sacrifices made by the state police and central para-military force personnel.
In his message, state Home Minister Robert Garnett Lyngdoh said he honoured the sacrifices made by the security personnel to improve the quality of life of the people in the state and the country as a whole.
The solemn function at the police reserve here, included reading out of names of the 751 security personnel, who became martyrs during the period September 1, 2005 to August 31, 2006 in the country; besides, firing of 21 gun shots in their honour and observance of one minute silence.
The function was presided over by Shillong Superintendent of Police H Kharkrang and attended by senior police officials.
