Gogoi welcomes Centre decision to hold talks with ULFA

Guwahati, Oct 21 (UNI) Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today welcomed the Centre's reported decision to hold direct talks with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).

Reiterating state government's full support for such talks, Mr Gogoi said in a release here today that for a lasting peace, the Centre should hold direct talks with the banned outfit.

He appealed to ULFA to shun violence, stop extortion and sit for a direct talks with the Centre to create an atmosphere for peace and development in the state.

'All section of people of Asom want a permanent solution of the insurgency problem,' Mr Gogoi said and appealed to all insurgent groups of the state to abjure violance.
