Diwali celebrated in MP

Bhopal, Oct 21 (UNI) The Festival of Lights, signifying the victory of good over evil, was celebrated with traditional gaiety and fervour across Madhya Pradesh with fireworks display and distribution of sweets.

Governor Balram Jakhar and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan extended their greetings to the state's denizens.

A police control room official said that no untoward incident -- linked with Diwali -- was reported from anywhere in the state.

However, a pall of gloom descended over political circles as ruling Bharatiya Janata Party legislator and former minister Kishorilal Verma (63), who represented Khandwa district's Pandhana constituency, was slain today along with his wife by a building contractor over a monetary dispute.
