China arrests two men for deadly bomb attack

BEIJING, Oct 21 (Reuters) Chinese police arrested two men in connection with a bomb attack this week that killed two people and wounded 17 in a village in the southwestern province of Yunnan, Xinhua news agency said today.

Tao Xiaowu and his son, from Huangmaoling village, were suspected of throwing four homemade bombs into a crowd on Wednesday evening as part of an apparent feud, Xinhua said, citing a statement from police. Three of them detonated, it said.

Another son fled after the bombing, it said.

''A preliminary investigation by the public security authorities shows that Tao's wife had had a feud with a peasant woman in the neighbourhood, and the woman was in the crowd when the blast went off,'' Xinhua quoted the statement as saying.

It did not say whether the woman was among the dead, and gave no further details.
