Chilean player sanctioned for bribery attempt
SANTIAGO, Chile, Oct 21 (Reuters) Former Chilean soccer player Frank Lobos has been barred from any activity related to professional soccer for 10 years after being found guilty of attempted bribery, soccer authorities said.
The disciplinary tribunal of the National Professional Football Association yesterday decided unanimously on the punishment for Lobos, a former member of Chile's national youth team, according to a ruling posted on its Web site (www.anfp.cl).
The football association found Lobos guilty of trying to bribe players from Santiago Morning and Club Union Espanola to lose games against Universidad Catolica in August.
Santiago Morning players told the tribunal that Lobos offered them ,000 to lose, while players from Union Espanola said they were offered 20,000 euros.
Government prosecutors are also investigating Lobos on criminal accusations in the case.
