BSP-supported candidate shot dead

Allahabad, Oct 21: BSP-supported candidate for Allahabad Nagar Nigam polls Shashi Verma, was allegedly shot dead in Madhavapur locality early this morning.

According to police, miscreants barged into the lodge where Verma had been staying around 0330 hrs. They allegedly sprinkled petrol in the room and set it afire.

While Verma broke open the door to save himself, the miscreants attacked him with bombs and opened fire, killing him on the spot.

Verma, a resident of Fatehpur district, was staying in the lodge for contesting the corporator election from ward number 24 (Madhavapur).

Later, an FIR was lodged against three people.

Meanwhile, one person has been arrested in this connection, the police said.
