Army jawan runs amok, kills 5 colleagues, injures 2

Jammu, Oct 21 (UNI) An army jawan went berserk and opened indiscriminate fire killing three of his colleagues while injuring two others early today at Naria in Rajouri district here, official sources said.

''Running amok, a jawan shot dead three of his colleagues at 0450 hrs while two others also received wounds in the incident,'' Defence sources told UNI.

The jawan then, sources said, attempted suicide and was critically wounded.

An FIR has been lodged with the police and an inquiry has been initiated into the incident, sources added.

Neither the army nor the police have yet disclosed the names of soldiers.

Some unconfirmed reports, however, said the jawan, who had attacked, belongs to the Regiment of Signals.

The wounded soldiers had been shifted to the army hospital, sources said.
