AP govt to launch 'remote area development programme'

Hyderabad, Oct 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced that the government would launch a 'remote and interior development programme in all naxal infested areas of the state'.

Participating in a function of 'Police Commemoration Day' organised by the state police here, Dr Reddy said the objective of the programme was to eliminate poverty in remote areas where the youths were turning to extremism.

The programme was will be implemented with the joint effort of the district administration and police.

Stating that the government was planning to double the strength of greyhound force to tackle the naxal problem, he said development was the only solution to root out the social naxalism.

State Home Minister K Jana Reddy said the government had taken a decision to revise the wages of police employees who were recruited in place of their relatives killed in naxal violence.
