5 Pak infiltrators among 10 militans killed in J
Srinagar, Oct 21 (UNI) At least 10 militants, including five Pakistani infiltrators, were killed while a police officer escaped an attempt on his life in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, an official spokesman said today.
A report from Baramulla said security forces noticed suspicious movements near the Line-of-Control (LoC) at Limber in Uri sector early this morning.
They challenged the intruders who fired heavily and in retaliation three militants were killed, sources said, adding some arms and ammunition were also seized from them.
In another infiltration bid in Gurez sector, Border Security Forces (BSF) killed two intruders immediately when they crossed the LoC from the Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) last evening.
A BSF spokesman said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of three militants sneaking into this side of the LoC.
When challenged near Karma post on this side of the LoC, the militants opened fire. The fire was returned and the exchange of fire, which continued for about two hours, left the two militants dead.
Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were seized from the slain infiltrators.
A senior security official said more than 1500 militants were waiting across the border to cross over to this side before the infiltration routes were closed due to snowfall.
However, the security forces have been keeping a strict vigil against any such attempt, he said.
So far, more than 50 militants have been killed by the security forces immediately after they sneaked into this side of the LoC since January this year.
A number of exfiltration attempts were also foiled by the security forces and the state police. About 60 Kashmiri youths were arrested before they could sneak into the PoK during the past six months.
