106 blank travellers' cheques seized, woman nabbed

Mumbai, Oct 21 (UNI) The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials intercepted a woman departing for Johannesburg in South Africa at Chhatrapatti Shivaji International Airport here and seized 106 blank travellers' cheques along with currency amounting to Rs 47.89 lakh.

Customs Joint Commissioner Satish Kumar, in a statement here today, said the woman, whose identity was not disclosed, was intercepted by the officers on suspicion on the night of October 19.

She had in her possession 106 blank travellers' cheques in the denomitatin of USD 1,000 amounting to Indian Rs 47,08,400, along with USD 1,642 and Rs 10,000 cash, aggregating Rs 47,89,305.

She was held under the provisions of the Customs Act 1962, he added.
