Woolmer withdraws bonus demand

Lahore, Oct 20 (UNI) Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today said the team coach Bob Woolmer has dropped his demand for a 50,000 dollar bonus.

PCB Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf told Voice of America (VOA) that Bob Woolmer in a telephonic conversation from India has opted to withdraw his demand of 50,000 Dollar bonus.

''As per the contract, Bob Woolmer was only entitled to this bonus, if Pakistan had climbed to fourth ranking in the world,'' he said.

Dr Ashraf said after the PCB pointed out to Woolmer that team has not got that ranking, ''He (coach) decided to withdraw the demand as he admittedly realised that he was not entitled to such additional Bonus,'' Dr Ashraf added Meanwhile, Sports Medicine Asociation of Pakistan (SMAP) has strongly criticised the PCB for disclosing the names of the players allegedly involved in drug scandal.

''The names of Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif have been prematurely disclosed in media in violation of ICC Anti-Doping Code,'' claimed SMAP president Dr Danish Zaheer.

In an interview he said as per the ICC Anti Doping Code (ADC) clause 16.2, names cannot be revealed before the due process is completed.

According to clause 16.2: ''Neither ICC nor its Members shall publicly identify cricket players whose samples have resulted in adverse analytical findings, or who were alleged to have violated other clauses of the Anti Doping Code, until it has been determined in a hearing in accordance with the clause eight that an ADC violation has occurred, or such hearing has been waived, or the assertion of the ADC violation has not been timely challenged or the cricketer has been previously suspended. Once a violation of the ADC has been established, it shall be publicly reported within 20 days.'' UNI XC HSB PM GC1721
