Troops take up civic action programme in Manipur
Imphal, Oct 20 (UNI) The Assam Rifles troops stationed in Manipur have taken up major civic action programmes to win over the hearts of the people in insurgency-affected Manipur.
AR officials here today said community halls, sports centre, vocational centres were being constructed through the length and breadth of Manipur and due to a low budget extensive works could not be done.
Major General B K Chengapa inaugurated such a vocational training centre at Kangpokpi, Sadar Hills, Senapati District last evening.
On the request of local people the 14 Assam Rifles had initiated the project in July, 2005, as part of military civic action programme. The project was completed at a cost of Rs three lakh.
It provided facilities for stitching, knitting, embroidery and ironing for the women of the area.
He said a warm relationship between local and security forces was the need of the hour to instil confidence among the people and usher peace in Manipur. He stated that this project will help provide a suitable platform for unemployed women to harness their potential in the region.
