Tripura govt bans selling of lottery tickets

Agartala, Oct 20: Close on the heels of banning the Tripura online lottery, the state government has decided to ban the selling of all kinds of lottery tickets in the state.

Police had been asked to take stringent action against all vendors selling lottery tickets.

Briefing media persons, Finance Minister Badal Chaudhury said the government had decided to ban selling of all forms of lottery tickets in the state from October 16.

''An order has already been issued in this regard,'' added the Minister.

He further said selling of lottery tickets from other states had also been banned. Tripura will be known as ''no lottery state'' from now on, he added.

Mr Chaudhury expressed anguish over the fact that some vendors were still selling lottery tickets illegally. ''I have information that some vendors are still carrying on with the business (selling of lottery tickets) defying the government order. I have strictly ordered police to take stern action against the violators,'' added Mr Chaudhury.
