Tourism Ministry to showcase NE's cultural heritage
Imphal, Oct 20 (UNI) The Union Ministry of Tourism has embarked upon a major project in the North East to properly harness its tourism potential.
Official sources here today said the Ministry had decided to launch tourism campaigns on different themes in the region, including Sikkim, to popularise its culture and showcase its natural beauty.
The themes included adventure and rural tourism for promotion of tourism in domestic market, cultural heritage and world heritage sites, 150 years of India's freedom struggle, social awareness campaign against garbage, graffiti on monuments and pilgrimage.
Sources said the Ministry had accorded special thrust to improving the quality of tourism infrastructure all over the country, adding during 2006-07, 79 projects amounting to Rs 108.57 crore had been approved and special emphasis had been laid on the North East.
