Swamy condemns Centre for not hanging Afzal

Chennai, Oct 20 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today condemned the Centre for not executing the death penalty for Md Afzal Guru in connection with the Parliament attack case.

In a statement here, he said Afzal himself had not asked for mercy and the Union Law Ministry had also well in time advised the Union Home Ministry that no legal basis exists for not carrying out the sentence.

''Hence the Home Ministry had no patriotic or legal reason for not carrying out the execution forthwith'', he said and sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention to ensure that Afzal was given his due punishment.
