Security beefed up in Golden Temple, other areas
Amritsar, Oct 20 (UNI) Punjab Police today intensified security at the Golden Temple and other places in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts following intelligence reports of possible terror strikes by Lashkar-e-Toiba and other terrorist organisations in the state.
Cops in plain clothes and an additional SGPC task force were deployed in the Golden Temple complex to meet any eventuality on the day of Diwali tomorrow in the wake of certain intelligence reports, Amritsar SSP S K Srivastava said today here.
He said, round -the- clock online cameras were also installed inside the Golden Temple and the security measures had been intensified inside the walled city as well.
The BSF's intelligence wing had intercepted a message two days back which indicated that LeT, Al Badr and Hizbul Mujahideen could attack vital installations in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts for which ''20 fidayeen squads were already dispatched to Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts, the SSP said.
