Renewable energy power projects go private in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 20 (UNI) For the first time in Haryana, renewable energy-based power projects will be set up with 100 per cent private participation.

This was revealed in a meeting of the Board of Governors of the of Haryana Renewable Energy Development Authority (HAREDA) held under the chairmanship of Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Renewable Energy) S C Chaudhary here today.

The Board has been empowered for the sanction of renewable energy power projects of up to 5 MW capacity, an official spokesman said.

Mr Chaudhary said 65 proposals of biomass with a cumulative capacity of 680.4 MW for 26 sites and 22 proposals of small hydro power projects with a cumulative capacity of 4.7 MW for three sites had been received in response to proposals invited by the state Government in this regard.

Giving further details, HAREDA Director Sumita Mishra said that for two blocks namely Ambala and Hisar-II, proposals had been received for setting up of biomass based power plants of 5 MW capacity each. For Barwala Biomass based power project, proposal had been received for setting up power plant of 2 MW capacity.

These proposals from Independent Power Producers (IPPs), involving an investment of around Rs 53 crore, had been approved in the meeting.

For other blocks, the capacity of biomass based plants would be above 5 MW for each plant, she added.

She said that proposals had been received for setting up 4.7 MW hydro power projects involving an investment of Rs 32 crore at Mussapur, Khukhni and Gogripur in district Karnal.

The State Government had constituted Technical Appraisal Committees for biomass, small hydro power and wind projects.

She said that for the first time such an initiative was taken by the State Government to encourage private participation in setting up renewable energy power projects. All the projects would be time-bound and the completion would be sought within 18 to 20 months.

These projects would promote 100 per cent private investment in setting up renewable energy power plants.
