PCI takes suo motu cognizance of reported assault on pressmen

New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) The Press Council of India has taken suo motu cognizance of reported assault on mediapersons on October 17 by lawyer colleagues of Santosh Kumar Singh, convicted in the Priyadarshini Mattoo rape and murder case.

PCI in a statement here today expressed concern on the reported facts.

Keeping in view the gravity of the matter which, prima facie, appreared to be a threat to the free functioning of the press, the PCI sought a detailed report from the media organisations concerned.
