PCB names doping panel, Chairman seeks report at the earliest
Lahore, Oct 20 (UNI) Pakistan Cricket Board today named Dr Waqar Ahmad as the third member of the Anti-Doping Tribunal, which will probe into the use of performance-enhancing drugs by pacers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif.
PCB Chairman Naseem Ashraf met the panel today and asked them to submit the report at the earliest.
PCB had earlier announced that ex-Governor of Punjab and advocate Shahid Hamid would head the tribunal, which also included former Test captain Intikhab Alam and the board today added Dr Ahmad, Director Sports Medicine of Pakistan Sports Board as the other member of the panel.
Both Shoaib and Asif were withdrawn from the ICC Champions Trophy after they failed dope tests conducted by the PCB.
PCB had arranged to test 19 players prior to the Champions Trophy from a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory in Malaysia and the pace duo failed the test.
The PCB Chairman met the panel here today and a board release later said, ''As per the official spokesman of PCB, the tribunal will commence work with immediate effect. The PCB Chairman held its first briefing session with the tribunal earlier today and instructed to present its findings and recommendations as soon as possible.'' UNI XC AY DS1413
