Jaya describes Srividya's demise as a great loss

Chennai, Oct 20: Expressing grief over the death of actor Srividya, AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said her demise was a 'great loss' to the South Indian film industry.

In a condolence message, the AIADMK supremo, herself a yesteryear heroine, said Srividya, the daughter of renowned carnatic singer M L Vasanthakumari, began her career as a Bharatnatyam dancer and later made her mark as an actress by acting in over 900 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

'She was an exemplary character artiste,' Ms Jayalalithaa noted.

Srividya, who made her debut in 'Thiruvarutchelvar,' acted in a number of hit films including 'Imayam,' 'Punnagai Mannan,' 'Apoorva Ragangal' and 'Thalapathy,' she recalled.

'I pray to God that her soul rest in peace,' she said.
