Industrialists be given time to file tax returns

Thane, Oct 20: Industries in Maharashtra be given extention to file their tax returns as many of them face several difficulties, said a senior BJP leader and former National Council member of the party Om Prakash Sharma here.

In a memorandum to the Finance Minister P Chidambaram, and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, he said thousands of industrialists in the state are facing umpteen number of problems filing the tax returns as the last date for filing the tax returns is fast approaching.

In a recent decision the Government has made it mandatory for the Industrial units to pay tax online. Various areas in the state face severe power cut frequently and as a result availability of the Computers for filing the taxes has become difficult.

Added to the woes is the non availability of the tax network which is also a major hurdle and this has put the industrialists in a real fix, he informed.

There are more than 2,50,000 industries in the state of which only one thousand have filed their returns, he added saying that in Gujarat, on account of floods the government has given an extention of two months. 'The same was the situation in Maharashtra too which needs to be given an extention,'' he urged.
