Heavy snowfall in Kashmir upper reaches

Srinagar, Oct 20: Cold weather conditions prevailed in entire Kashmir as the upper reaches of the Valley experienced heavy snowfall since yesterday while plains received rainfall today.

However, the 300-km Jammu-Srinagar and the 434-km Srinagar-Leh national highways were both open for vehicular traffic.

Heavy snowfall was witnessed at Khilanmarg, Apharwat and other upper reaches of Gulmarg since yesterday morning. About one feet of snow had accumulated on the slopes.

A report from Pahalgam said the upper reaches, including the periphery of the holy cave shrine of Amarnath, received heavy snowfall since yesterday.

About one feet of snowfall was recorded at Sheshnag, Mahagunas, Pissu Top, Sangam Top and Panjtharni on way to the cave shrine.

Besides, the upper reaches of Sonamarg have also recorded heavy snowfall.

The plains, including the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced heavy rainfall and biting cold since early today.
