Forest ranger sentenced to six years RI

Bhubaneswar, Oct 20 (UNI) A forest ranger was sentenced to six years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 9000 for misappropriating government money through false documents.

In its judgment, Special Judge Berhumpur convicted Umerkote Kendu leaf division Range officer Upendra Pradhan last Wednesday for misappropriating government money to the tune of Rs 22,050 by preparing false vouchers.

Mr Pradhan was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for two years and a fine of Rs 5,000, in default, of which to undergo another rigorous imprisonment for six months under the offence under section 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

He was also sentenced to two years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2000 for the offence under section 467 of IPC and two years' imprisonment, besides a fine of Rs 2,000, for the offence under section 468 IPC.

In case of default of payment, the forest ranger was asked to undergo further two months imprisonment in each of the case.
