Farmers siege MRO

Vijayawada, Oct 20 (UNI) The small and marginal farmers from several villages laid the Mandal Revenue Office (MRO) under stege at Kanchikacharla here for the second day today.

The farmers were demanding cancellation of the notification issued by the administration on May 26 for acquisition of their lands for creating infrastructure by development of industries.

The farmers also resorted to hunger strike and staged dharnas demanding the cancellation of the notification.

They said 1,602.46 acres of land belonging to them would be lost if the notification was implemented.

The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) condemned the government's action and demanded that steps should be taken to protect the farmers' interests.

Meanwhile, police registered cases against the farmers for not allowing the employees into the office.
