Farmers lathicharged in village near Gharsana

Sriganganagar, Oct 20 (UNI) Police today lathicharged villagers of Saat Keri village near Gharsana in Ganganagar district after a pitched battle.

Sources and eyewitnesses said the police had surrounded the Saat Keri village to arrest agitating farmers which the villagers protested. Violent clashes followed between the villagers and police.

The police later lobbed teargas shells and lathicharged the rampaging crowd. At least 10 people, including four women, were hurt during the lathicharge.

In the meantime, the markets in Gharsana closed after news about the clashes reached there, which was witnessing relaxation in curfew from 0800 hrs to 1200 hrs.
