Duleep: Kumble put West Zone in trouble
Indore, Oct 20(UNI) Star cricketer Anil Kumble's scalped five wickets yielding only 42 runs putting West Zone in trouble as the latter were bundled out at 180 and South Zone gained a crucial 111-run first innings lead on the second day of a Duleep Trophy encounter at the Usha Raje Cricket Ground here.
Replying to South's total of 291, West could notch up 180/9 with one batsman hurt. Ravindra Jadeja (53), Rohit Sharma (41) and Dhiraj Jadhav (36) were the only batsmen who somehow faced South's mixed attack - the pace of Laxmipathy Balaji and S Sreesanth coupled with Kumble's menacing spin.
S Bahutule could not come to bat owing to injury. Sreesanth claimed three wickets and Balaji took one.
Earlier, South could add a mere 10 to their overnight score of 281/9. In the second innings, South were 65/2.
Zaheer Khan who scalped batsmen in the first innings took one in the second also.
One wicket was claimed by S Trivedi.
At stumps, V V S Laxman (12) and Y Venugopal Rao (26) were at the crease.
