DMK continues winning streak, all set to retain Chennai Corpn
Chennai, Oct 20 (UNI) Having captured five Corporations in Tamil Nadu, there is no stopping DMK-led DPA as the front is all set to retain power in Chennai Corporation also.
Counting of votes polled during the incident-marred October 13 local body elections was taken up at 1400 hrs today after the Supreme court refused to stay the interim order of Madras High Court.
Of the 155 Chennai Corporation Wards, counting was taken up in respect of 143 wards today.
Counting for the remaining 12 wards where repolling was held today would be taken up tomorrow.
The DMK-led Front bagged all 15 wards for which results were announced and established leads in almost all the remaining wards.
Official sources told UNI, the ruling DMK won at least 12 wards while three wards went to its ally, the Congress.
In the two phase civic polls held on October 13 and 15, the DPA, continuing its successful performance in the May Assembly Elections, completed a fine double sweeping the local body polls also.
Besides winning the Tirunelveli, Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore and Tiruchirapalli Corporations, the DPA had won a majority of the Municipalities and Town Panchayats.
