Diwali shopping reaches peak

Puducherry, Oct 20 (UNI) The Diwali shopping reached its peak with just hours remaining for the dawn of the festival of lights.

The main shopping centre, the J N street here was flooded with people making late Diwali purchases. Most of them were government employees with the territorial administration, which had disbursed salary to it's staff yesterday along with bonus.

The mill workers who received their bonus before the government employees, had already completed their shopping.

Police had a tough time in controlling the traffic on the streets with people thronging the shops.

However, a moderate shower late this evening hindered the shopping though the rain did not dampen the spirit of the festival of lights.
