Creamy layer :Cong says no comment

New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) The Congress today refrained from commenting on the Supreme Court ruling that the creamy layer among the reserved categories must be excluded from the benefit of reservation, saying the verdict is binding on the country and there is no option.

"This matter is bound to trigger a debate as to how and to what extent the concept of creamy layer, hitherto used in the context of OBC, can be applied to the SCs and STs," Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said.

He told reporters here that opinions were divided among individuals and institutions on whether creamy layer should get the benefit of reservation. Political parties were also of different views on the issue, he added.

The Congress, he said, had left it to the Government to take a stand on the issue. Various bodies had also left it on the Government to take a stand."In that context the Congress has no comment as the order is binding." UNI YS MIR BS1933
