Centre grants Rs 120 crore for urban poor in Ambala
Chandigarh, Oct 20 (UNI) The Centre has released Rs 120 crore for providing housing facilities to the poor people of urban areas in the Ambala Parliamentary constituency of Haryana under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Scheme.
Union Minister of State for Urban Employment and Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja told reporters here today that under the scheme, housing facilities would be provided to the poor people residing in Ambala City, Ambala Cantt, Naraingarh, Pinjore, Kalka and Panchkula.
Jagadhri would also be covered under this Centrally-sponsored scheme soon, she added.
Several new programmes were being chalked out under the 11th Five Year Plan for poverty eradication and the Ambala Parliamentary Constituency would get full benefit of these programmes, she said.
The Centre had sanctioned a sum of Rs 50 crore to set up an industrial cluster for science industries in Ambala Cantt. The work on four-laning of Ambala Chandigarh Highway was progressing on war footing, the Minister said.
There was also a plan to construct highway from Panchkula to Pinjore-Kalka upto the boundaries of Himachal Pradesh, she added.
Ms Selja said the Government was paying special attention for the development of rural areas so as to provide facilities to people residing in rural areas on the pattern of urban areas.
