Bus mishap: 60 bodies fished out
Rewa, MP, Oct 20 (UNI) Divers pulled out 60 bodies, including that of 17 women and 16 children, while search continued for other missing after a private bus plunged into a pond at Govindgarh town in Rewa district yesterday.
Official sources today said a two-year-child was still reported missing.
The bus, carrying more than 60 passengers, was heading from Hinauta in Satna to Rewa when the driver lost control and the vehicle plunged into the 35 feet-deep pond at around 1000 hrs yesterday.
Most of the passengers were labourers, who were going to their home to celebrate Diwali.
The bus driver also lost his life in the tragedy. However, eight passengers swam to safety.
Massive rescue operations were undertaken after the incident.
Divers from Indore and Allahabad were pressed into service. The bus had been lifted out last night.
The local administration had ordered an inquiry into the accident and has approved Rs 5,000 each for the cremation of the deceased.
