BJP MLA criticises politicisation of Delhi govt functions
New Delhi, Oct 20 (UNI) BJP MLA in the Delhi Assembly Karan Singh Tanwar today lamented politicising of State government functions accusing Congress legislator of taking credit for development works in constituencies represented by the opposition party legislators.
In this context, pointing to a Delhi government function yesterday to inaugurate two foot overbridges in Satya Niketan area, Mr Tanwar said,''As MLA of the area, I have been making efforts for the last few years to ensure setting up of these foot overbridges, one near Venkateswara College and another near the Gurudwara Road.
However, I was not even invited to the inauguration ceremony by the Chief Minister while Congress MLAs including Barkha Singh and Ashok Ahuja who do not represent the area were present as special guests.'' Mr Tanwar said the entire credit for the coming up of the footbridge was taken by the two invitee MLAs present at the function.
''This is nothing but the most blatant instance of politicisation of a Government function,''he said.
Mr Tanwar said as per tradition, any state government function organised in a locality was held under the chairmanship of the area MLA and it was his prerogative whom to invite at the function.
Mr Tanwar said yesterday's function was not the only instance of the state government bypassing him.
''A similar thing happened when the Dhaula Kuan bridge was inaugurated by Congress president Sonia Gandhi without his knowledge. It is an insult to the people of the area if their MLA is not invited to a function in the locality and amounts to the murder of democracy,''he said.
He said he would organise a protest outside the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's residence against this 'politicisation'.
The issue of politicisation had also kicked up a furore in a meeting of the MCD Standing committee where several BJP Councillors alleged that they were either not invited to some recent functions in their areas or not consulted on the invitees.
