Asom govt compelled to readvertise for APSC exam

Guwahati, Oct 20: The Asom Government has to scrap the selection process of the Asom Public Service Commission (APSC) following a landmark judgement by Gauhati High Court.

The High Court has asked the APSC to readvertise the selection procedure incorporating three per cent reservation for the disabled, made mandatory by the Constitution.

The APSC, had not only advertised the whole process but also took the application, and the written examinations were supposed to be held on October 29.

More than 30,000 had applied for the 200-odd posts.

Petitioner Arman Ali, Project Coordinator Disability Law Unit, and Mr P K Pincha, Regional Manager, Actionaid, filed the petition urging the court to intervene and stop the procedure.

The court after getting response from the Asom government stopped the process asking the APSC for fresh advertisement. The APSC authorities this morning informed that they had cancelled the examinations and were readvertising the posts adding the three- per cent reservation for the disabled.

The fresh date of written examination would be intimated at a later date but those, who had applied, need not have to apply again, the source said.

Claiming it as a major victory, Mr Ali said all along the government had been insensitive to the disabled and in the selection of the Public Service examinations also they had meted out injustice to the people.
