Arangu organizes Kathakali festival in Surat

Surat, Oct 20 (UNI) Arangu, a forum for connoisseurs of temple arts, has organised a two-day festival of Kathakali and Mohiniattam here.

The Mohiniattam and Sopana Sangeetham will be performed on October 21 evening at the Jeevan Bharati School Auditorium, Nanpura, while The Kathakali festival will be held at Patel Pragathi Mandal, Jogani Nagar, Adajan on October 22.

Two Kathakali performances will be organised on October 22, office bearers of Arangu told UNI. The first is Nalacharitham, a classical text written by Unnayi Variar, based on the story of Nala and Damyanti. The second is Lavanasura Vadham, which performs the meeting of Seeta and Hanuman at Valmiki's Ashram.

The two stories are considered to be the most sought after performances by Kathakali connoisseurs.
