Alamgir Alam elected new Jharkhand Speaker
Ranchi, Oct 20: Mr Alamgir Alam, Congress Legislator from Pakur, was today unanimously elected new Speaker of Jharkhand.
With Mr Alam's election, the House was adjoured sine die.
As the House assembled with the agenda of Speaker's election, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Ravindra Nath Mahto proposed Mr Alam's name, which was seconded by all members.
Officiating Speaker Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu then announced the unanimous election of the new Speaker.
Chief Minister Madhu Koda and former Speaker Inder Singh Namdhari escorted Mr Alam to the Chair.
Immediately after resumimng his seat, the new Speaker said he would try to see that sanctity of the office assigned to him was maintained.
Mr Koda and and his immediate predecessor Arjun Munda congratulated Mr Alam and hoped he with experince as mature politician would be able to add to the prestige of the Chair.
