Videocon to identify land for Siliguri SEZ
Kolkata, Oct 19: Videocon Realty and Infrastructures Ltd officials would visit North Bengal on November 24 to approve land, identified by the West Bengal government for its proposed SEZ.
Videocon had proposed a multi-product SEZ in and around Siliguri in North Bengal.
Group Director Anirudh Dhoot said the company would decide on the North Bengal SEZ in the next two months. Videocon had already received approval for three SEZs in Bengal.
These included multi-product SEZs in both North 24-Parganas and the Kharagpur-Kolkata stretch and an SEZ dedicated to electronics and IT in the North 24-Parganas.
The state had shortlisted few probable locations such as Fulbari, Fasidara, Ranidanga and Rangapani, Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya said.
Mr Bhattacharya assured investors that land acquisition would not be a problem for SEZs. The comment comes in the wake of controversy over land acquisition for Tata's at Singur in Hooghly district.
Apart from Videocon, Salim of Indonesia, Salarpuria and Srei group have received approvals for putting up SEZs in the state.
Salim group alone would require 22,500 acres for a chemical hub and a multi-product SEZ near the industrial town Haldia in East Midnapore district.
