Two TV journalists booked for fraud
Moga, Oct 19 (UNI) Police have booked two journalists and a cameraman representing two Delhi-based news channels on charges of cheating a meatseller by impersonating as Income Tax officials.
Police here today said the three identified as Gaurav Moonga, Arun Kalra and cameraman Gurdev Singh had videographed the meat shop of wholeseller Balwant Singh on the pretext of making a news report.
Later, they rang up Mr Singh saying they were Income Tax officials from Delhi and he should pay them Rs five lakh if he wanted to escape stringent action as they would make a case against him for non-payment of tax properly, police said.
After haggling, they agreed upon a sum of Rs one lakh and asked Mr Singh to hand over the first installment yesterday at the residence of Kalra.
Mr Singh informed the police about the incident which after registering a case, conducted raids at different places in the city last night to nab the culprits who were absconding.
