Two trains collide near Kanpur, traffic disrupted

Kanpur, Oct 19 (UNI) Railway traffic on busy Delhi-Howrah trunk line was severely disrupted following an accident in which Gorakhpur-Okha express train collided with a goods train near Kanpur railway station today.

Three coaches of the goods train were derailed after the collicion, while the driver of passenger train received minor injuries, the official sources told UNI here.

About a dozen important trains, both on up and down lines, carrying thousands of passengers during the festival season have been stranded at different stations due to damage in the railway tracks at the accident site.

The senior officers from Allahabad zone and division had rushed to the spot to oversee the restoration work.

The cause of the collision was not immediately known but the priliminary reports suggested that the driver of the express train might have overlooked the signal.
