Two hard core militants nabbed

Imphal, Oct 19 (UNI) Two time world champion MC Mary Kom was leading a 13-member Indian contingent for the Venus Box Cup Invitational Tournament scheduled to begin today at the Danish town of Vejle in Denmark.

Manipur Information Centre said there was high hopes from the pugilist from Manipur and two-time Asian gold medallist L Sarita Devi also from Manipur was also expected to do well.

More than 130 boxers from 18 countries will be taking part in the meet, which is the biggest women's boxing tournament in Denmark.

Pugilists from Canada, Romania, Germany, France, Estonia, Finland, Zambia, Ireland, Italy, Mongolia, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden and Wales besides India and the host country Denmark will fight it out for the medals in different weight categories.

MC Marykom will take part in the tournament in 46 kg weight category while L. Sarita Devi in 54 kg. Other pugilists from India are Kalpana Choudhury (48 kg), Chooto Loura (50 kg), Sushma Kumari (52 kg), Preeti Beniwal (54 kg), N. Usha, Ashwani Prabha (57 kg), Pranamika Boro (60 kg), Jenny RL (63 kg), Aruna Mishra (66 kg), Ashwati Mol (70 kg) and Lekha (80 kg).
