Temperature dip in HP after rain and snow
Shimla, Oct 19 (UNI) The cold wave tightened its grip over Himachal Pradesh following intermittent snowfall in the upper areas and rain at isolated places in the lower areas of the state during the last 24 hours, the Met office today said.
The higher altitude areas of tribal districts of Kinnuar, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba and Kullu were experiencing fresh spell of mild intermittent snowfall since last night, plummeting day and night temperatures in the entire state.
Rohtang Pass, situated at 13,050 feet above sea level, Baralacha Pass and other higher mountain peaks in Lahaul district, Saach Pass and higher reaches of Pangi and Bharmaour and Kinner Kailesh in Kinnuar have been experiencing snowfall over the last 24 hours.
The famous tourist place of Manali in Kullu and lower areas of the state were lashed by light showers, while thick clouds hovered over Reckong Peo and Keylong, the district headquarter of Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti districts respectively.
Light showers followed by hailstorm lashed Shimla and other adjoining areas, forcing people to scurry from the raindrops and hailstorm, and the Met office said that the state capital had recorded 2.6 mm of rain till 1709 hrs.
However, people continued to shiver under intense cold wave conditions as the night temperature remained low in the high and tribal areas of the state.
The state capital recorded a day temperature of 20 Celsius and a night temperature of 11.6 Celsius, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded maximum of 29.1 and 28 degree degree Celsius respectively.
The met office has predicted rain or snow at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
